Hammock Garden

The Hammock Garden is located in Miami’s tropical neighborhood of Coconut Grove. The garden serves as a visual intercessory between the historic Spanish architecture and the owner’s beloved contemporary furniture collection. To create a harmonious connection between these disparate aesthetic styles, we used traditional Spanish Architecture building materials in innovative ways. The dialog between the materials and configuration of the pool, hardscape, and garden features blends the old and new. Within the garden we used reclaimed greenheart lumber to construct the BBQ terrace, outdoor shower, and dining deck. Due to its extraordinary resistance to water rot, Greenheart is the only untreated lumber used as pilings for docks and marinas. It lasts for decades in these conditions and is immune to the damage from the sun or saltwater.
